Original classical bassoon for sale made by Dobner of Strasbourg with seven keys.

In good, playable condition having been played professionally by a leading UK bassoonist until recently. Good intonation and free-blowing. Comes with a well-matched crook (provenance unknown - may be original) and a case. With the appropriate reed it plays well at A=430Hz.

Stamped 'Dobner & Consort A Strasbourg' (see close-up photographs).

Dobner was active between 1812 and 1837. The Dobner and Keller families collaborated on instrument making, possibly later than this bassoon was made (1).

This Dobner bears many similarities with a Paul White copy of a Buhner & Keller bassoon in our possession. Buhner & Keller were active in Strasbourg contemporarily  (1802-1844) with Dobner. This is a copy of an instrument previously in the Henk de Witt collection, now in the Carolina Music Museum in the USA.

If a prospective owner intends to play this bassoon to any extent it would benefit from a service which we can carry out for a fee. It plays well as it is though.
